My Take Home From The Visit To Mazi Nnamdi Kanu Ipob Leader - By Emenike Iroegbu

It is no longer secret that I have a critical view concerning Nnamdi Kanu and his IPOB struggle, my critical view is purely based on process issues and not on the personality.

Almost every average Igbo man or woman including me will earnestly desires for the realization of Biafra, but the process is always the dividing factor. While some people are propagating economic Biafra as a process of realizing total Biafra, others are propagating confrontation as a means of getting Biafra.

Obviously, the truth remains that our ideas will never be the same at every giving time, so the need to cross breed ideas becomes extremely important if Biafra will be realized.

It is important to draw the attention of our people to the fact that our past experiences have not helped the matter, the stories of the Biafra civil war are so horrific even when it is being told and the abracadabra of Ralph Uwazuruike’s Biafra money struggle is also disappointing. These two points are viable reasons why our people are being very careful about the activities of IPOB.

My above critical view is what motivated me and got me interested when an open cheque was given to me to visit Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the basic thing that ran through my mind was “go and listen to Nnamdi Kanu, after that make your judgement about him and the struggle”.

To tell you the truth, I was indeed impressed by a lot of things about Nnamdi Kanu after our interaction, some of my critical views about him got adjusted and the affinity increased. One unique thing that I captured immediately we started interacting is his intelligence power and communication fluidity.

The power of his mental capacity obviously is not in doubt, he proved beyond reasonable doubt to me that he is sound, articulate and vocal, which are critical characters of a successful leader.

Another thing that caught my fancy is his simplicity. Honestly, Kanu’s simplicity is amazing considering the height the struggle has gotten him to. He walked in freely to us, talked and discussed as if he knew us for years, with no air of importance attached to him, unlike our numerous political office holders who become Alfa’s and Omega’s once they assume any political position no matter how small.

During our discussion, Nnamdi Kanu propagated 3 ideas, these ideas sound simple to me, but when my brain processed the information within seconds, I discovered that the ideas were indeed simple but they were also great solutions to our immediate problems faced by Nigeria in the area of Health, Education and Power.

The idea made it mandatory for everyone including political office holders to use the nearest public amenity or facility close to them.

If your kids must attend school, they should attend the closest public or private school to your residence, if you are sick, you must get medical attention from the closest medical facility to you. The third idea is concerning Power, he propagated that Power Generating Set should be eradicated from Nigeria and that every Nigerian should depend on our public source of power, he insisted that your source of power must be from the nearest source of power, no special lines should be allowed.

These ideas are basically elementary, but in their elementary nature is the solution to the challenges we face, it is also a solution to corruption. By the time every Nigerian is leveled on the issue of education, health and power, the government will be forced to make sure power is fixed because they can’t use power generating set, they will make sure every public hospital is fixed because they are not permitted to travel abroad for medical attention, they will also make sure our schools are in good shape because their kids or wards can only attend schools closest to them. You see, simply but with deep solution.

One other issue that I was really against on social media happened right there before my very eyes. An assumed committed member of IPOB came with a hand-knitted cap as a gift to Nnamdi Kanu and after their quick interaction, the man laid down, requested for Nnamdi Kanu to place his feet on him and pray for him.

Nnamdi Kanu did not step on him, neither did he tell him to get up, but he prayed for him in our native Igbo language after which the man stood up and left.

Though I was not comfortable with that, but the man did it on his own volition and free will, the man felt very happy and comfortable after his action and the prayer.

I must not forget to mention the commitment of IPOB members all around Nnamdi Kanu’s house, some were actively cleaning every nook and cranny of the apartments, some were positioned as security men at the gate, some played surveillance roles, everyone was working and they seem happy as well.

This level of commitment should be emulated by individuals in business, organizations and work places.

On the issue of his health which we asked about, Nnamdi Kanu explained that he has not submitted himself to any medical doctor because he is looking for a medical doctor who is Biafran at heart, who will not compromise his health. He promised that once he finds one, he will submit himself for every medical examination, he drew our attention to a consistent headache which he experiences even after full night rest.

Along our discussion, Nnamdi Kanu seems to realize the views of some people concerning his utterances and he said; “Some people say I am harsh, that is why i intend to create opportunity for other Biafrans to come on Radio Biafra and make statements, those that can’t be convinced by me, will be convinced by them” he said.

Personally as Emenike Iroegbu, I still have my reservations which I will not discuss now, but some of my misconceptions has being settled.
